A Lufthansa flight had to make an emergency landing to disembark five passengers who were reportedly suffering from food poisoning.
According to news website visir.is, the plane landed shortly before 0700 GMT and took off three and a half hours later, leaving the sick passengers in Iceland.

A doctor at the National University Hospital of Iceland told AFP four of the passengers, two Germans and two Croatians, were admitted and released four hours later.

"I can't say if it was food poisoning, but they all had symptoms that suggested something like that. I can't verify anything until research on the food has been conducted," said the doctor, who asked not to be identified. He said the fifth passenger was probably treated at the airport clinic.

visir.is reported samples of the food the passengers ate on the plane were sent to an epidemiologist.
