Local authorities in Mumbai distributed at least 200,000 saplings free of cost on Sunday as part of a green drive. The event was kick-started by the civil authorities and members of Bollywood film industry here.
The plantation drive 'I love Mumbai' aims to turn Mumbai, which is viewed as one of the most polluted cities in the world, into a clean and green city.Bollywood actor Vidya Balan and local politicians turned up at the launch of the 'I love Mumbai' campaign, organized by the municipal corporation here.
Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak and many dignitaries including designer-turned- politician Shaina NC were present on the occasion.
Vidya Balan on this occasion said the campaign was a big step to make Mumbai safer, cleaner and greener.
"It's about planting trees all over Bombay (Mumbai). I think it's a very small step for each of us to take to ensure that a healthier, safer, cleaner and greener environment," said Balan.
