An Indiana University School of Medicine researcher, Thomas D. Hurley and Stanford University researchers report that a protein may reduce the damage caused by heart attack.
The researchers found higher levels of the ALDH2 enzyme in lab rats that were resistant to heart muscle damage caused by heart attack.

"We've found a totally new pathway for reducing the damage caused by free-radicals, such as the damage that happens during a heart attack," said lead author Dr Daria Mochly-Rosen, a researcher at Stanford University Medical Center.
