Confusion and controversy prevails over a case lodged by a wife against her ex-husband (diagnosed to be HIV positive), accused of infecting her with the deadly virus. Apparently, he had not disclosed his HIV positive status before the marriage. Furthermore, he is said to have put two others at risk of HIV infection over a period of 6 months.
The woman, who has two children, is said to have had unprotected sex with her partner nealry 5 times a week during their association and is now pregnant. She was made to believe that her husband was suffering from a form of cancer (lymphoma). The man had refused using a condom and rather opted for the withdrawal method.Their relationship had come to a standstill in 2003 when the ex-wife suspected her partner to be infecetd with HIV. He is said to have been associated with a gay man since then. If charges against him are proved in the court, he could face imprisonment for upto 15 years.
She displayed mixed reactions of anger and deception in the Supreme Court in Adelaide where the case was taken up for hearing. She also said that she was disappointed about his careless attitude when questioned about his ex-girlfriend. It would be a period of watchful waiting for the ever-inquisitive media till the issue is resolved.
