The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has warned that parents are putting babies at risk by using slings in an incorrect manner.
CPSC said that babies who do not have control over their head position could suffocate due to lack of air. "The baby will not be able to cry for help and can slowly suffocate,” the CPSC warned. “Make sure the infant’s face is not covered and is visible at all times to the sling’s wearer.”Baby slings are popular as they help keep the child in close proximity to parents. Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and Jools Oliver have all used baby slings.
The UK government is reviewing the use of these slings and will decide whether to issue warnings about the risks associated with its use.
