Badly injured External Affairs Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, was taken from Calcutta to Army Hospital in N Delhi.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who was badly injured in a road accident near Kolkata late Saturday night, reached Delhi by a special flight and was taken to the Army Research and Referral Hospital here Sunday noon. Mukherjee, who received 15 stitches on the head in a West Bengal hospital, reached the army hospital in south Delhi at around 12.40 p.m. and was wheeled in immediately. The army will be issuing a statement on his health condition later, hospital officials said.

The 72-year-old Congress leader was injured at Bethuadahari, about 130 km from Kolkata in Nadia district, late Saturday when a stone chip-laden lorry swerved out of control after a tyre puncture and overturned on the car in which he was traveling. He was on way to Kolkata from Murshidabad where he had gone to inaugurate a book fair. Mukherjee's car was a wreck.

In Kolkata, West Bengal state Congress Pradip Bhattacharya told IANS Sunday: "He is out of danger. His scan report has revealed nothing wrong."

Congress leader Manas Bhuniya and Mukherjee's political secretary Pradyut Guha were with the minister in the car. Bhuniya helped security personnel ease Mukherjee out of the car.
