Extra Prescription Fee Banned in NZ

The Hawke's Bay District Health Board is all set to take legal action against pharmacists who are overcharging for prescription medicines.

The Hawke's Bay District Health Board is all set to take legal action against pharmacists who are overcharging for prescription medicines.

Grey Power in Hastings has complained to the Hawke's Bay health board that chemists were adding a dollar to overall charge and violating the contract that they charge only $3 an item.

However Pharmacy Guild spokeswoman Katie Fala said the extra dollar charge was to "cover increased costs not included in health board contracts." She added that people could very well refuse to pay the extra charge, but this would cost them more in the long run.
