A new study has revealed that slum children have better eyesight than those from well-to-do families.
According to various health experts, slum children or children from poor background do not have the luxury of eating junk food or get exposed to latest technology. This in turn has reduced the risk of eye ailments in such children with just 3.27 percent suffering from any eye problems compared to others. The survey, conducted by the health department, observed 6, 852 students studying in 88 Alternate Innovative Education Centres (AIE) centers and found that just 224 students complained of any eye problems.
“The health examination of AIE children was done to identify and diagnose medical, dental and eye ailments. The survey was undertaken for commonly occurring ailments such as malnutrition, anaemia and worm infestation. Special attention was paid to children having acute medical conditions”, Dr Paramjyoti, Programme Officer, School Health Programme said.
