Little did 21-year old US woman Jenessa Simons know that a post on Facebook mentioning her search for her birth parents could actually result in her finding her birth mother. She had posted a photograph of herself with a sign detailing her birth information to Facebook and had requested her friends to "like" and "share" it.
The image went viral after it was shared more than 138,000 times.
Ms Simons, who was originally named Whitney, mentioned on Facebook the details of her birth- that she was born at Utah Valley Regional Medical Centre in 1991. Her parents were both 16 at the time.
A lady who saw the message felt strongly that she had attended school at the same time as Ms Simons' birth parents. She immediately connected with the lady she felt would be Ms Simons' birth mother.
Ms.Simon’s birth mother then established contact with her daughter.
"She sent me a message on Facebook and said 'I think this is you, I think I'm your birth mother. I can't believe this, I've waited all this time'," Ms Simons told a leading newspaper.
