The fertility technique -- intrauterine insemination with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation – is only as effective as trying to get pregnant the natural way.
A Dutch study has revealed that the fertility technique -- intrauterine insemination with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation – is only as effective as trying to get pregnant the natural way, for some couples.
The results of the study have been published in the The Lancet. The research was conducted on 253 couples with unexplained infertility who'd been trying to conceive for over a year. These were cases where no obvious abnormalities were found.
The research required half of these couples to try conceiving naturally for six months and the other half were assigned to receive intrauterine insemination (ICI) with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with the help of drugs to make the ovaries produce eggs and the insertion of sperm directly into the womb.
The research found 40 conceptions and 34 ongoing pregnancies among the couples trying to conceive naturally, compared to 42 conceptions and 29 ongoing pregnancies among the couples who received the fertility treatment.
