Fetal Development Face The Threat By Frequent Ultrasounds

Pregnant women are recommended not to undergo frequent ultrasound scanning, unless there is any need for it, as it may prove dangerous for the developing fetus, according to the US food and drug administration (FDA).

Ultrasound images can show facial features, hair and even the developing baby's sex, reported health portal HealthCentral.

Although ultrasounds are generally safe, they can affect developing tissues and may cause a rise in fetal temperature, the report said quoting FDA.

Besides, prenatal images being marketed for non-medical reasons are often done by less-experienced personnel and may expose a fetus to a longer period of imaging than one performed by a medical technician.
