New data from the East Midlands Public Health Observatory has revealed that some 33% of the children are overweight by the time they reach the end of their primary school in Northamptonshire area.
The study, which was conducted in 2007/08, found that 33% of pupils in their final year of primary school were overweight, while 19% of younger children were obese.Obesity in childhood is fast becoming a massive problem for the health systems to handle. Obesity pre-disposes to diabetes and heart disease and is now being tackled seriously at school level itself.
