A Medical Team is all set to board a 500-capacity British cruise vessel, Funchal that has been around for over 20 years.

A Medical Team is all set to board a 500-capacity British cruise vessel, Funchal that has been around for over 20 years. This ship is presently off the West Australian coast, and will host the medical team, who are to examine reports that passengers on board have been infected by a contagious flu.

The department's director of Communicable Disease Control, Dr. Paul Van Buynder said, "The Department of Health is sending a team of specialists to Esperance to board the cruise ship Funchal following claims that a number of recent passengers have developed a respiratory illness."

The WA Health Department team would board the ship at Esperance, 731km south-east of Perth, and the team will stay put on the ship till it anchors at Perth, so that a complete investigation would be possible.The department has been monitoring the ship for over a month, following reports that certain passengers who alighted at Hobart and Adelaide had influenza A
