Four Pre-Term Babies Die in Tamil Nadu Hospital Due to Health Complications
Media reports claimed that eight newborn babies had lost their lives at the government medical hospital in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. However, a senior official confirmed that only four babies have died owing to health complications.
Dr. Usha Sadasivam, dean of government Villupuram medical hospital, said, "Four pre-term babies lost their lives due to health complications. It is wrong to say eight babies died. The babies were under-weight. The mothers’ ages were in the range of 18-27 and were largely under-nourished. As a preventive measure, the expecting mothers are advised to consult doctors well in advance on having a proper nutritious diet."

Dr. Sadasivam refuted the possibilities of any infections or negligence in treatment.
