The Union Health Ministry in India has announced a number of major health initiatives including providing free healthcare to pregnant women

He added that the costs for the services will be borne by the central government as it looks to deal with the high infant mortality rate across the country.
Apart from free healthcare to pregnant women, the health ministry will also be offering financial assistance to the tune of Rs 1 lakh for cancer patients who are unable to get the required medical care. To start with, over a 100 patients selected from 100 districts will be given the money to help them get chemotherapy, basic surgery and palliative care.
