The I&B ministry has tried its best to discourage smoking scenes in films. Many tactics were employed, right from a ban to having the smoking scenes blurred. Now, they have come out with fresh guidelines which appear to be a win-win solution for all. The approach they will take is to allow the scenes to appear as they are but have mandatory disclaimers to be played before and during the film.
The Ministry of health and family welfare has consented to bear the costs of producing these audio-visual disclaimers.
From now on, audio-visual disclaimers of minimum 20-second duration on the deleterious effects of tobacco use will be played at the beginning and middle of these films.
