“Gift an Organ”, An Exclusive Website for Organ Donation to be Launched in Coimbatore

Websites have become a part of our daily life. From shopping till blood banks everything is available online. Recently Confederation of Indian Industry, Coimbatore and young Indians are about to launch a website for organ donation. The website is www.giftanorgan.org. It will have information regarding organ donation and will also address about its myths and misconceptions associated with it, said Dr.S Vivekanandan, Head of KMCH Liver Institute.

In 2008 the Government of Tamilnadu has passed orders and laid down systems for deceased organ donation and transplantation which has paved the way for developing such campaigns.

Healthcare Panel of CII with young indians and 12 major hospitals in Coimbatore has kick-started an organ donation campaign. RV Ramani (Project Chairman), Gift an Organ Managing Trustee, Sankara Eye Care said , “the campaign will not be just for a day, a month or year, but a sustained drive.”

Raja Sabapathy, Convenor (Healthcare Panel), CII Coimbatore and Director, Ganga Hospital, said “ The hospital is negotiating with a company in Delhi for having an air ambulance in Coimbatore soon. For this to happen, we will need Government support, not necessarily finance, but landing rights; a blanket permission for landing anywhere in a medical emergency.”
