A study on the perfect condom for Indian Men Sudhakar Krishnamurti, an andrologist by profession embarked on a five year study to understand if condoms for Indian men can be designed to provide a better fit.
The research published in the Journal of sexual medicine, took into account the dimensions of the erect penis of 200 Indian men, hailing from different regions in India and spanning several linguistic groups. He also included overweight people as part of the study.
Krishnamurti and his team from the Andromeda Andrology Centre, Hyderabad, administered an injection to the participants to induce an erection. The erection dimension of the penis was noted. The average minimum length of the erect penis was 9.6 cm whereas the maximum was 16.6 cm. The minimum circumference of the erect penis was 10.2cm while the maximum was 14.7cm.
The circumference of the erect penis is more important to the condom manufacturers than the length, Krishnamurthi said.
Explaining the influence of race in determining the size of the penis, he said, “You can’t expect a six-foot-tall Scandinavian and a four-foot-tall Korean to have the same size. The size difference is consistent with differences in other parts of the body. Our experience is that Indians usually complain about loose condoms; complaints about tight ones are rare.”
These figures nearly coincide with three earlier studies conducted in the West which portrayed averages of 15.5cm, 14.5cm and 12.9cm.
