'Good things come to those who wait' is the most commonly used advert line in Britain, according to a new survey.

Guinness advertising slogan 'Good things come to those who wait' is the most commonly used advert line in Britain, according to a new survey.

According to the study led by media owner In Your Space, more than 45 per cent of Brits used the Guinness advertising slogan in everyday life.

The second most commonly used slogan is by Tesco "Every little helps" while Ronseal's "Does exactly what it says on the tin" came third in common parlance usage.

McDonald's "I'm lovin' it" made it to the list at the fourth spot.

Ian McAteer, chairman of the Union advertising group, said advertising slogans that enter common use are those that appeal to the British love of word-play and puns.

"Ad slogans are just as much part of popular culture as music is and other forms of media," the Scotsman quoted him as saying.

"As a nation we love language, and I think anything that is clever and original which is a twist on language, people will respond to it and take it on.

"What advertising agencies are trying to do, ultimately, is come up with something people will remember.

"So Nike says 'Just do it'. It's not particularly clever or funny but it has an emotion, a sentiment that sticks in your head," he added.
