Visitors at the ongoing Auto-Expo 2008, the annual automobile exhibition held here, have been eager to know more about "environment-friendly" cars, which run on non-conventional fuel that cause less pollution.
At the Expo, Mitsubishi Motors exhibited its electric vehicle, which it expects to launch in India in a few years.According to the Mitsubishi representatives, the electric car works on lithium-ion battery and can be charged up to 80 per cent in 30 minutes using a special charging technique.
"Countries are seeking new technologies and alternate fuels. There are two reasons for it -- environmental concern has become very-very real now and fuel prices have reached unimaginable levels," said Sumit Seth of Mitsubishi's Sales Department.
Sanjeev Tiwari, a mechanical engineer, said that the ever-increasing pollution and the rising fuel prices have ignited peoples' interest in non-polluting or eco-friendly vehicles.
"Electric vehicle has a future, because it is the most clean and has zero emission," said Tiwari.
