According to a study which was published in the International Journal of Cancer it was found that drinking tea protected people against billiary tract cancer and reduced the risk of developing bile stones.
Billiary tract cancers are very rare but are fatal. Bile stones on the other hand are seen in women and are linked to obesity. Statistics show that about 10% of the patients who had undergone treatment for billiary tract cancer live over five years. The researchers analyzed 627 patients with billiary tract cancers, 1037 with billiary stones and 959 people as controls.Among women, they found that drinking at least one cup of tea daily for a period of 6 months reduced the risks of bile stones by 27 %, gallbladder cancer by 44 % and bile duct cancer by 35 %. But in the case of men there were no significant changes as in women. Previous researchers have found that green tea may have anti-cancer effects. Components in green tea promote deaths of cancer cells. But the FDA rejected the health claim over the anticancer effects of green tea due to the lack of strong evidence.
