Porn related sales were said to be recording new lows, thanks to the growing popularity of so-called tube sites.

Around 1,000 tube sites, offering snippets of free explicit material, have apparently jolted the estimated 13 billion dollar porn industry, unleashing a flurry of copyright-infringement lawsuits.

And technology such as video streaming and webcameras, that previously boosted the figures for the adult entertainment industry, was now observed to be working against it by making wide range of free content, including pirated video content or amateur-shot footage, easily available, the USA Today reported.

Steven Hirsch, founder of porn heavyweight Vivid Entertainment, said: "We're dealing with the perfect storm: declining DVD sales, rampant piracy, free content and a weak economy. This is the worst I've seen in this industry in 25 years."

Kathee Brewer, an editor at AVN, which covers the adult-entertainment industry, added: "The tubes are making money off the studios' investment of time and money, while the studios are forced to spend ever larger chunks of change to police the tubes and send endless takedown notices." (ANI)
