Hartford To Offer Life Insurance To Cancer Survivors

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. has announced that it will be making life insurance more accessible to patients with prostate cancer.

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. has announced that it will be making life insurance more accessible to patients with prostate cancer. This move comes, as the survival rates of the cancer are pretty high owing to better chemotherapy as well as early diagnosis and management.

The company will introduce plans at standard rates "to men 60 and older who have been surgically treated for moderate levels of prostate cancer," Hartford said. It added that the plan is similar to what was offered to breast cancer patients’ in October 2005 and is a part of an effort to provide acceptable insurance services to cancer survivors. Mike Kalen, an executive vice president who heads The Hartford's individual life division said that nearly two-thirds of prostate cancer patients are not diagnosed early, but each year around 50,000 of them are given early treatment thus extending their survival considerably. Around 250,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the last five years could qualify for the new insurance rates, he said. For more information visit: http://www.thehartford.com
