Hay fever is on the rise in Britain with health experts warning that more than half of the population could fall victim to the disease by the end of the next two decades.

According to the recently released Hay Fever Health Report, the number of hay fever cases will double from its currently number of 15 million to at least 32 million by 2030 with more and more people preferring to move to cities rather than settling for a country life.

The report went on to add that the rise will also affect productivity with at least 20 percent of hay fever patients opting to call in sick when their symptoms are at their worst.

“Hay fever rates tend to be as high or even higher in urban areas than in the surrounding countryside despite the fact that most pollen counts are much lower in cities, especially for grass pollen”, lead author Prof Jean Emberlin said.
