The NCHER had made a demand that medical education and the sanctioning for medical colleges should be brought under this ministry. But health ministry did not agree.
The National Commission for Human Resources in Health (NCHRH) and the National Commission for Higher Education and Research (NCHER) have devised a broad agreement to develop a mechanism to link the two regulatory bodies. The final details regarding the proposed linkage mechanism will be worked out during the next meeting of the health ministry's expert group and the HRD ministry which is scheduled to be held on 15th February 2011. If everything goes well then both the bills would be finalized for an introduction during the budget session of the Parliament. Â The NCHER had made a demand that medical education and the sanctioning for medical colleges should be brought under this ministry. However the health ministry did not agree to this on grounds that medical education was linked to the provision of health services. Therefore the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stepped in to find some solution.
Therefore after the meeting held on last Friday it was decided to synchronize these two regulatory bodies.
