OPD services in premier health institutions like AIIMS, MAMC, Lady Hardinge and Safdarjung in the capital started functioning with junior doctors reporting back to duty. The situation was the same in government hospitals in West Bengal, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and other states.While medicos resumed duties following a Supreme Court order yesterday directing them to end the strike immediately, the medicos have made it clear that they will continue supporting the agitation against government's proposal to introduce 27 per cent OBC quota in higher education sector.
While in Delhi and Gujarat, the students have called off their strike while their friends in Karnataka continued boycotting classes today and took out rallies to create awareness on their demand among public, according to representatives of Youth for Equality.
In the second phase of the stir to be launched in the state from June three, the medical services would be kept out of the purview of the agitation, they said.
In West Bengal, junior doctors, interns and housestaff attended to emergency cases as well as outpatient departments in all seven medical colleges, state Health Department sources said.
They said normal services in the hospitals, which were almost paralysed owing to the agitation were expected to resume in a day or two.
