History of Women’s Day

The first National Women’s Day was observed on February 28, 1909, with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America due to various demands for women’s rights and equality. Since then, the day had been celebrated on the last Sunday of February until 1913.
Clara Zetkin — a German leader and suffragist in the Women’s Office, proposed an annual and international celebration of women’s day by organizing an international women’s conference in August 1910.

With several ongoing efforts towards women’s rights, white women in the U.S. were granted the right to vote on August 18, 1920, through the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Finally, in 1965, the incessant productive determinations led to Voting Rights Act for all women.

However, the UN celebrated the first official International Women’s Day during International Women’s Year on March 8, 1975. Finally, in the 2000s the new-age feminism became prominent with the rising internet era.
