  • The objective is to help people find a plan that meets their goals, whether it’s finding the best weight loss diet, the easiest one to follow, or plans for other goals, such as managing diabetes or heart disease
  • While the Mediterranean diet ranked first, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet and the Flexitarian diet tied for second place

Which is the Best Diet

For the sixth year in a row, the Mediterranean Diet is named the Best Diet Overall, with an emphasis on eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, olive oil, and seafood, as well as a focus on diet quality rather than a specific nutrient or food group. The Mediterranean Diet is also tied for first place in Best Diets for Bone and Joint Health, Best Family-Friendly Diets, Best Diets for Healthy Eating, and Best Plant-Based Diets. The DASH Diet is noted for its ability to prevent or control diabetes and enhance heart health, and the Flexitarian Diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plant-based protein for the entire family, tie for second place in the Best Diet Overall category.

The Best Diets rankings for 2023 include two new diet categories: Best Diets for Bone and Joint Health and Best Diets for Families.
