There has always been an ongoing argument regarding the do's and dont's of dieting. Nutrition experts at a famous women's retreat suggest a new and better way through the dieting controversy. We've been discussing and arguing over diet - the latest fashion being the 'low carb' approach - for many decades now, and still the obesity 'epidemic' is increasing. So experts at the 'no diet' women's retreat Green Mountain in the US suggest a new approach - concentrating on what your body wants to eat, rather than trying one diet after another.

And the key is to get in touch with your body, first, by more physical activity - whatever you like to do, be it swimming, dancing or lifting weights. Then have regular nourishing meals to get back properly in touch with the body's hunger and satiety cues. A good way is to try the 'plate approach' where one half of your plate is filled with fruit and veg, another quarter with protein and the rest with a starchy food. This advice is, at least, well researched by nutritional biochemists.

After consuming this, one should ask themselves whether they feel satisfied or not. Or is something lacking - like more protein or a bit more carbohydrate? Without going overboard on calories, do your best to fulfil your body's needs. Think about how you feel when you have eaten and again several hours later. How is your energy, focus and satisfaction? A little of this self-analysis may be all you need to guide yourself into a healthy eating plan that keeps you a at a healthy weight, says the Green Mountain team.
