Heart Valve Transplant Saves Six-year-old Boy

A six-year-old boy called Johnson from the Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh was saved thanks to a homo-graft heart valve transplant donated by a 19-year-old boy

A six-year-old boy called Johnson from the Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh was saved thanks to a homo-graft heart valve transplant donated by a 19-year-old boy who was killed in a road accident.

Johnson was born with a heart defect and is now safe after the surgery was performed under the Aarogyasri scheme.

Dr K.S. Murthy, a paediatric cardiac surgeon performed the transplant, “The child was diagnosed with the blue baby syndrome with no development of the artery that takes blood from the heart to the lungs. Homo-graft valve was harvested from the body within 24 hours of death and transplanted it to the child. After the operation and post operative care, the child is doing well," he said.

Johnson's parents have thanked the parents of the teenage boy called Ganapathi. The latter's parents have also donated kidneys and cornea of the boy.
