Six states have been declared as high prevalence states where HIV prevalence among antenatal mothers has been observed to be more than one per cent.
The National AIDS Control Organisation with support from National Institute of Health and Family Welfare and National Institute of Medical Statistics (ICMR), conducts Sentinel Surveillance every year among high-risk populations, STI patients and Antenatal mothers. Based on the results of HIV prevalence in different population groups, six states have been declared as high prevalence states where HIV prevalence among antenatal mothers has been observed to be more than one percent. These States are Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur and Nagaland.
National AIDS Control Programme has adopted a Rights based approach and thus no children of affected families will be denied the right of education or employment.This information was given in the Lok Sabha today by Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a written reply to a question by Shri Asaduddin Owaisi.
