Continuing to advocate against consumption of aerated beverages, yoga exponent Ramdev today asked the Centre to increase duties on soft drinks and ensure that a statutory warning be written on every bottle about its health hazards.
'Like tobacco products, a statutory warning should be written on every bottle that consumption of cold drinks give rise to cancer, infertility and diabetes,' he told reporters here.He said instead of reducing levees, 'soft drinks should be made so costly that no one can think of consuming it. This is the best way to discourage people'.
Ramdev claimed that scientific tests conducted on cancer patients performing yoga and ayurveda had shown remarkable results and were safe, unlike radiation therapy that led to general weakness and hair loss.
The yoga guru further claimed the results were 'observed by experts and proved scientifically' at the treatment level.
However, certain international norms had ,to be followed before it could get approval, he added.
