Himachal Pradesh Chemists Join Nation-Wide Strike Against Online Medicine Sale

The shutdown was also observed by the private chemists operating stores in state-run hospitals and dispensaries.

More than 5,000 chemists across Himachal Pradesh joined the nation-wide strike to demand action by the center against the online sale of medicine.

Himachal Pradesh Chemist and Druggist Association president Sanjeev Pandit said, "There was a complete shutdown by the retail and wholesale chemists across the state."

The medicine stores under the banner of Utkal Chemists and Druggists Association protested the move to regularize the sale of medicines through the internet.

Pandit further added, "The shutdown was also observed by the private chemists operating stores in state-run hospitals and dispensaries. The state civil supplies corporation drug stores, however, are operating in major hospitals."

A senior police officer said, "There was no report of any untoward incidents."
