The shutdown was also observed by the private chemists operating stores in state-run hospitals and dispensaries.
More than 5,000 chemists across Himachal Pradesh joined the nation-wide strike to demand action by the center against the online sale of medicine. Himachal Pradesh Chemist and Druggist Association president Sanjeev Pandit said, "There was a complete shutdown by the retail and wholesale chemists across the state."
Pandit further added, "The shutdown was also observed by the private chemists operating stores in state-run hospitals and dispensaries. The state civil supplies corporation drug stores, however, are operating in major hospitals."
A senior police officer said, "There was no report of any untoward incidents."
