The Himachal Pradesh health department directed hospitals in the state to provide beds to the patients.
Just over a month after it was rapped by the High Court regarding care given to thalassemia patients, the Himachal Pradesh health department directed hospitals in the state to provide beds to the patients. A spokesman for the health department said that directives have been sent to all state and district level hospitals to provide at least two beds for thalassaemia patients along with free medicines and treatment facilities.
He went on to add that blood transfusions will also be provided to the patients by the hospital authorities.
The move comes after the high court asked the state government what care was being given to the patients following a petition filed by advocate Y.K.Thakur. Thakur had alleged that the treatment facilities provided by the IGMC hospital in Shimla were inadequate while there were no separate wards for blood transfusions for such patients.
