The state has received a congratulatory letter from the Union government on its achievement. The state has also achieved total fertility rate (TFR) of two or lesser children before the targeted deadline of 2010.Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are the other states to have achieved this target.
State officials said HP was able to reach this milestone thanks to the improved health infrastructure in the state.
