The superintendent and principal of NBMCH, Dr J B Saha, said here today that the allegation had no basis.Yesterday around 200 HIV-positive persons under the banner of 'Sanghabaddha' a voluntary organisation of HIV positive persons, demonstrated at NBMCH and alleged that the HIV patients were not being treated properly.
They complained that there was a shortage of medicines which were essential and provided by the government free of cost.
The secretary of Sanghabaddha, Sachin Das, alleged that the NBMCH authority earlier refused 'Anti-Retroviral' medicine to new patients and as a result of which they were forced to rush to Kolkata to collect the medicine at a cost.
Dr Saha, however, told PTI that the secretary was worongly informed. The hospital had sufficient stock of medicine including 'anti-retroviral' medicines.
Rather, NBMCH was actively considering to provide free meal to all HIV patients shortly. But in most cases, NBMCH could not oblige the HIV patients to allow them bed for an indefinite period.
