Two Chinese scientists have claimed that a substance extracted from honeysuckle plant is a natural UV- protecting agent. Researchers found that wool treated with honeysuckle extract blocked UV rays much more effectively than untreated wool. The extract was durable and remained active even after long exposure to sunlight and repeated washings. According to Ren-Cheng Tang and Sha-Sha Sun, of Soochow University the extract can be used a natural coating over clothing's which could protect people from UV-Rays and thus reduce the risk of skin cancer and premature ageing.
The research has been published in the American Chemical Society's journal Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research.
