Hospital asked to Compensate Victim – Judgment by Delhi High Court

In a judgment passed by the ‘Delhi High Court’ on Tuesday Justice Vikramjit Sen passed the order and asked Safdarjung Hospital to compensate Manju

In a judgment passed by the ‘Delhi High Court’ on Tuesday Justice Vikramjit Sen passed the order and asked Safdarjung Hospital to compensate Manju a 12 year old for the wrong treatment administered by Dr Yadu Lal of the hospital. He wanted to be informed in the next few days how much compensation was the hospital ready to pay to the victim.

An earlier enquiry had indicated that the operation for total hip replacement and fixation of fracture dislocation of the spine for Manju had major technical faults. The committee recommended that Lal be removed immediately as head of the orthopedics unit at Safdarjung and he should be asked to work under direct supervision till further orders

The inquiry committee comprised Dr V.K. Arora, additional director general of Central Government Health Scheme, and Dr Surya Bhan, Head of Orthopedic Department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, N.Delhi.
