A new study carried out by a group of Canadian researchers have found the exact way that cancer cells manage to ignore the treatment and continue to flourish even though the treatment means that the cells should have been destroyed. Researchers led by David Litchfield of The University of Western Ontario found that the biochemical pathways in the cells are rewired, allowing them to ignore the therapy and continue to grow and spread.
“This work focused on understanding how cancer cells acquire a selective survival advantage, allowing them to avoid apoptosis, the chemically-induced cell death”, Litchfield wrote in the report which has been published in the journal Science Signaling.
