The portal, www.humanproteinpedia.org, which is being seen as a protein ‘Wikipedia’, will help researchers to share information regarding protein sequences absolutely free of cost.

Efforts of 71 laboratories of genetics and proteomics worldwide have given rise to a novel, online resource of scientific information called ‘Human Proteinpedia’.

At www.humanproteinpedia.org, the portal which is being seen as a protein ‘Wikipedia’, will researchers to share and integrate information regarding protein sequences expressed by the human genome absolutely free of cost.

The main objective of the Human Proteinpedia is to promote the exchange of genetic information among researchers.

Registered users will be able to include, retrieve and share data about sequences, structures or mutations validated by experimental evidence.

Only those people will be allowed to modify original information who have contributed to that piece of data.

The information deposited in the Human Proteinpedia forms an unprecedented database that helps comparing and interpreting protein sequences supplied by the scientific community.

It is believed that this tool will permit to make progress in the study of genes and of the proteins involved in human pathologies
