Hyderabad Medicos Still On Strike

It’s   even more misery for the sick as medical services across Andhra Pradesh   continue to   be handcuffed by the indefinite strike of junior doctors. The strike   enters the third day as   reports of at least 12 children dying due to negligence are heard.

Meanwhile the Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy  has appealed to the junior doctors   to call off their strike and resume duties on humanitarian grounds .

At a press conference, Reddy  was quoted: “The government is willing to talk to their representatives to work out effective ways and means to prevent recurrence of such incidents. If they have any suggestions with regard to the security measures that need to be taken including setting up of a police outpost, the doors of the government are open . 

 Doctors have a special place and responsibility in society and should see to it that ordinary patients do not suffer on account of their anger. Most of the patients who come to Niloufer Hospital are poor and hence should be shown special consideration”, he added.

The agitating medicos  have been demanding immediate arrest of Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Afsar Khan  and his suspension from the Assembly for attacking   doctors on duty on Sunday. They have  staged protests at various cities and towns in the state, in protest to   the assault on them at Niloufer government children's hospital , and are joined by the  senior doctors  of the hospital.

 Regarding the fact that  the doctors were seeking a  non-bailable case against MIM legislator Afsar Khan, Reddy  was reported that  it was not the government’s job to tell the police what they should do. “It is for the local investigating officers to decide”, he had said.

 The police have already  arrested the MLA . Other  cases have been  booked against  the  party activists who  allegedly attacked  the  duty doctors at Niloufer.

The Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy directed the hospital authorities to shift children to private hospitals to provide emergency treatment.

A few days back , Assembly speaker K R Suresh Reddy was reported that he    would talk to the floor leader of MIM about this incident. He  had urged public representatives to become  role models for the people in their constituencies. If they  harbored  grievance against doctors or anyone, they had certain rights and privileges to register their protest and seek action. But no MLA should take law into their hands whatever the provocation might be,  Suresh Reddy was reported.

Meanwhile  Afsar Khan  has denied all  allegations and  maintains that  it was the doctors who provoked him.
