Hillingdon Council in West London has decided to ban ice cream vans from outside schools so as to "encourage healthier eating habits in children".
Ice cream vans are a usual fixture outside of schools and pupils enjoy sucking on cones on their way home. However now authorities have decided that this habit is unhealthy and must be stopped. The council also said that the vans cause congestion outside schools. Traders have been warned that their vans, costing up to £40,000, will be impounded if they flout the rules.
