The South Africa's health minister, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, claims that including garlic, beetroot and lemon in one’s diet would delay the onset of AIDS.

She declares that she is telling the truth and has also warned about the ill effects of the anti-retroviral drugs.

This has sparked outrage among the AIDS activist and the medical establishment.

The minister insisted to the country's parliament that traditional medicine is the only alternative to ARVs.

Statistics show that AIDS epidemic claims about 900 lives everyday but using her techniques which are untested would prove dangerous.

She declared that traditional medicine along with proper nutrition delay the development of HIV to AIDS-defining conditions.
