‘A private diagnostic center in Trichy was negligent in handling blood samples resulting in inaccurate test results for dengue.’
An inspection conducted by health officials with the Trichy Corporation found that the blood sample containers were not properly cleaned. Staffers at the diagnostic centre were violating protocols in conducting and reproducing the laboratory test results.
According to Trichy health officer (CHO) R Chithra, the health officials with the urban local body (ULD) had been receiving inputs about more number of dengue positive cases revealed by tests conducted by Doctors’ Diagnostic Centre, a private diagnostic centre in Woraiyur.
During a surprise inspection carried out by a team headed by the CHO, the officials recorded evidence of the lab staff associated with the diagnostic centre mishandling test samples taken from patients.
The centre charges Rs.`2,500 for conducting the ELISA test to identify whether a patient has dengue. The inspection revealed that the staff manually cleaned the equipment and sample containers, deviating from the standard method.
