A study conducted by Assocham and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) on 'Working towards Wellness: An Indian Perspective' has shown the vulnerability of the Indian population to cardiovascular disease. It is expected that 30% of the population between the age group of 35-64 in India will be battling cardiovascular disease as against only 12% in the United States. India needs to spend precious on health, in the wake of the growing demands of globalization.Today, India is grappling with both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Alongside is the presence of diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, pneumonia, HIV/AIDS, and lifestyle ailments like diabetes. By the year 2025, India will be home to as many as 57.2 million diabetic patients.
India’s per capita expenditure on health is only 6.1% of the GDP. The need of the hour is to invest in healthcare programmes aimed at overall well-being of people at the workplace.
