Indian-American Doctor Faces Fraud Charges

Kamal Tiwari, an Indian-American doctor has been indicted on charges of healthcare fraud in the US. Dr Tiwari has been arrested and also faces charges of causing serious bodily injury to his patients. He is now scheduled to appear before a US Magistrate Judge in Indianapolis. The charges against him allege that he asked his patients to undergo procedures like trigger point injections and radiofrequency ablations in order to provide narcotic drugs prescription.

The charges say that such procedures are medically unnecessary. It is also alleged that Tiwari received $21,617,687 by these healthcare benefit programmes alone between 2002 and 2007.

Tiwari defrauded Medicare and Medicaid benefit programs and is also facing charges of 11 counts of unlawful drug distribution.
