Indian police say there is no evidence against Dr.Rajesh Talwar, a noted dentist, in the sensational twin murder case that has rocked the national capital New Delhi. He was granted bail Friday.
Dr.Rajesh Talwar seems to have cleared his name in the sensational twin murder case that has rocked the Indian capital of New Delhi for nearly two months now. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) says there is no evidence against him, and he was granted bail Friday.
Aarushi, a class 9 student of Delhi Public School (Noida) was found dead with her throat slit in her family's Jal Vayu Vihar apartment on May 16. The police initially named domestic help Hemraj as the prime accused but his own dead body was found on the building's terrace the next day.Aarushi's dentist father Rajesh Talwar was arrested on May 23. The police claimed he killed Aarushi in a fit of rage as he objected to her closeness to Hemraj, but the family denied the allegations.
On June 1, the investigations were turned over to the CBI from the Uttar Pradesh state police (under whose jurisdiction Noida falls). Dr.Talwar’s wife, Nupur, also a dentist, came under the scanner for a time. The CBI seemed to feel they were hiding something from them. Both of them were inside the house at the time of the murder of their daughter, but both said they had not heard any noise nor suspected anything untoward till they discovered the body several hours later.
The body of domestic help Hemraj was discovered by the police the next day on the terrace of the same house, but the Talwars did not utter a word about him nor would they explain how come they did not look for him after they found the body of Aarushi.
The mobile phones of both Aarushi and Hemraj as also the weapon used to murder them have not been recovered.
The Talwars seemed to be giving contradictory replies to many questions on what happened on the night of May 16.

Addressing reporters Friday, CBI joint director Arun Kumar said they found no deception on the part of the dentist couple during polygraph tests, but their compounder Krishna failed on that score. So did Rajkumar, the domestic help of the Durranis, business associates of the Talwars.

Trying to reconstruct what happened on May 16, the CBI official said, "Krishna, Raj Kumar and Vijay Mandal (a domestic help of the area) gathered for drinks. Krishna was angry with Talwar for having pulled him up for a mistake at his clinic two days ago. Soon Aarushi’s name came up for discussion and the servants entered her room, probably with a view to sexually assaulting her.”
Aarushi did raise an alarm but was hit by a blunt object. Her parents, who were in their room did not hear anything because their door was closed and air-conditioners were on in their room as well as Aarushi’s. Besides Aarushish had a sore throat at the time.
Fearing that the parents might wake up, the trio retired from the scene. But there was a scuffle on the terrace in which Hemraj was killed.
"Krishna and Raj Kumar came back to Aarushi's room and killed her," Arun Kumar claimed.
How come all that time Aarushi did not rush to her parents, he did not explain.
As to why Krishna should have been provoked to murder over a minor incident, the official would only say Krishna said had aggressive tendencies, “not loyal to anyone, evasive, manipulative and hiding facts," Arun Kumar said.
He said the confessions of Krishna and Raj Kumar "have been corroborated forensically to the extent that the blood of Hemraj (AB group) was found on a pillow in Aarushi's room".
"The other scientific tests gave also largely supported their confessional statements," he said.
Obviously the last word is yet to be said in the case, and the CBI official admitted as much.
"We will talk to Vijay Mandal now (the last one to be arrested in the case thus far). We are sharing details with you because so many speculative stories are flying around,” Kumar said.
