The controversial doctor couple from Manapparai in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Murugesan and Gandhimathi, have been suspended from the membership of the state medical council.
The suspension will last a year. During that period they cannot practice. Their reinstatement would depend on the outcome of the court case against them.

They have been charged with allowing their 15-year-old-son Dileepan Raj to perform a caesarean section in April.

They were arrested after the issue came into the open in June last. The son too had to surrender to the police. But subsequently they were all released on bail.

The police registered an FIR against the three under sections of the Indian Penal Code — 417, 419, 336, 338 and 308 — on counts of forgery, manipulation of records and endangering human life, based on a complaint from the Deputy Director of Health Services.

Murugesan and Gandhimathi are running a maternity hospital and had apparently wanted his son, in the final year of his schooling, to enter the record books as the youngest surgeon in the world. Hence they had encouraged him to perform the operation on a woman related to them.

Subsequently the father had made a video presentation of the operation to the local chapter of the Indian Medical Association.

But only a furore resulted, leading to the initiation of court proceedings aginst all three.

However the woman operated upon and her baby are both fine, it is reported.
