Even as the World Kidney Day is observed in India, shocking statistics show that over 80% of critically ill kids with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) get no help.
AKI is also known as Acute Renal Failure. It is said that 5% of hospitalized children suffer from this condition. Furthermore Chronic Kidney disease (CKD) together with End stage renal disease (ESRD) accounts for 75-350 million patrients globally. In India, 3,00,000 ESRD children suffer from the condition, but just 5% receive treatment for the same. Significant kidney damage.can be prevented by prompt diagnosis and treatment, but the diagnostic tests in place do not help much.
Creatinine is assessed to know about kidney function, but its sensitivity is very less. In such a scenario, children with Acute Kidney Injury continue to suffer in India.
