Initial tests negative for bird flu in Romanian Woman

81 year old woman was hospitalized after she reported of high fever and respiratory problem and initial tests found her negative for bird flu virus.

Initial tests on a 81 years old Romanian woman admitted to Matei Bals Infectious Disease Hospital from a village in East Romania has proved negative for the bird flu virus. The woman was admitted to hospital soon after she had fever and respiratory tract problem.

The old woman belonged to the village where earlier reports of bird flu virus in birds were detected and the entire village was quarantined and the birds culled. Bird flu infection as been spreading all over the world killing more than 83 people and also caused very heavy economic loss due to culling of birds and poultry animals.

The woman is still hospitalized and is under medication and she will be discharged only after final confirmatory reports of her bird flu status are available which would take another one week.
